Dr. Carli Blau,Ph.D., M.Ed, LCSW

Founder of Boutique Psychotherapy

Creator of The Blau Method™

Clinical Approach

Dr. Carli Blau is a psychotherapist, sex therapist, and founder of Boutique Psychotherapy, a private pay group practice serving NYC and Westchester. She is the creator of The Blau Method™, a structured, accountability-based model of psychotherapy designed to transform insight into measurable behavioral change.

Clients often describe Dr. Carli as direct, deeply empathetic, and highly attuned. A work out for your brain - She is a straight shooter — not harsh, but clear. She does not simply listen; she helps clients identify the avoidance patterns, emotional blind spots, and behavioral loops that keep them stuck.

Her work centers on one core principle:

Insight alone does not create change. Behavior does.

Through The Blau Method™, Dr. Carli integrates psychodynamic insight with structured behavioral intervention.

She helps clients:

  • Increase discomfort tolerance

  • Interrupt avoidance cycles

  • Improve emotional regulation

  • Strengthen relational communication

  • Build small, incremental change that compounds

She specializes in relationship therapy and sex therapy for individuals and couples navigating emotional disconnection, desire discrepancies, sexual pain, infertility-related stress, and intimacy breakdown. Her work sits at the intersection of emotional and physical health, recognizing that relational patterns and nervous system regulation directly impact sexual and psychological well-being.

Dr. Carli is particularly known for working with high-functioning adults — including medical professionals, executives, and caregivers — who appear successful externally but feel internally overwhelmed, disconnected, or stagnant.

Her approach is structured, directional, and growth-oriented. Therapy should move.

Clinical Experience & Training

Before becoming a psychotherapist, Dr. Carli began her career as an associate television producer — an experience that sharpened her instinct for narrative, subtext, and human behavior.

She earned her graduate degree from Columbia University School of Social Work, completing her clinical internship in the emergency room at Bellevue Hospital in NYC. She later practiced under psychiatric supervision on Manhattan’s Upper East Side while earning a Master of Education in Human Sexuality from Widener University.

Dr. Carli completed her Doctorate at Widener University, where her published research focused on infertility-related sexual stress and sexual esteem — an area that continues to inform her clinical work in sex therapy and reproductive mental health.

She is certified in Women’s Hormone Health and Perinatal Mental Health: Mood and Anxiety Disorders, and has received training in EMDR: Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy and ACT: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She is a member of AASECT, America Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapist and was also member of Gamma Eta Rho Honors Society at Widener University.

She is licensed in New York, New Jersey and Florida and leads a team of clinicians at Boutique Psychotherapy who all practice The Blau Method™ within a private pay, structured psychotherapy framework.
